High resolution, autonomous 3D scanning of complex and harsh environments is of high value for the space industry for several applications, including mapping, inventory tracking, damage detection and science communication.
The CSIRO Space Technologies Future Science Platform is funding the development of a multi-purpose payload to address these needs based on patented CSIRO 3D Scanning and SLAM technologies.
The current focus is the development of a payload to target a use-case identified by Boeing, namely interior scanning of the International Space Station (ISS).
This paper describes the payload design and ground testing, and the CSIRO-Boeing collaboration to deploy the payload to the ISS for experiments likely to occur in 2023/24.
