Director of STEM Careers Strategy at the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences & Engineering

Dr Marguerite Evans-Galea AM MAICD is an accomplished scientist, executive, board chair and director. She is Director, STEM Careers Strategy with the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering (ATSE) where she leads the strategic and operational development and delivery of ATSE’s $43m portfolio of national STEM Careers programs which includes the Elevate: Boosting Women in STEM Scholarships program funded by DISR, the IMNIS industry engagement initiative and the STELR Schools program. She is also co-founder and co-chair of Women in STEMM Australia. Dr Evans-Galea has led international research programs in cell and gene therapy for genetic disease at world-leading organisations in the United States and Australia, and has received awards for her research and leadership. She recently completed her term as Australasia Associate Editor on the Editorial Board with Gene Therapy-Springer Nature. An internationally recognised advocate for inclusion and diversity, Dr Evans-Galea served on the SAGE Expert Advisory Group with the National Academies and the inaugural Ministerial Council for Women’s Equality in Victoria, and she is an inductee and Ambassador for the Victorian Honour Roll of Women. Dr Evans-Galea has also represented Australia at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Women in STEMM meetings. As a consultant, speaker and author, Dr Evans-Galea actively engages across multiple professional sectors in the broader STEMM ecosystem. An advocate for STEMM research, education and innovation, she has served with advisory groups in State and Federal governments, and communicates on a range of science-related topics via social and mainstream media. Dr Evans-Galea received the Vice-Chancellor's Alumni Excellence Award from The University of Queensland, and is also a Member of the Order of Australia (AM).
